AMOS is a Belgian SME that has been designing and manufacturing high-precision optical and mechanical systems for 40 years. Its main products are telescopes for professional astronomy, ground-based or space-based optical systems, spacecraft test facilities and high-precision mechanical equipment. AMOS is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of telescopes from 2 to 4 m in diameter, and the European leader for space optics.
AMOS' scope of activities covers:
- On-board equipment: mirrors, diffraction gratings, optical assemblies, instrument subsystems and imagers for Earth Observation satellites, space telescopes or deep-space probes.
- Compact hyperspectral instruments optimized for providing high signal-to-noise ratio within a small form-factor.
- Test equipment for space applications:
- Optical Ground Support Equipment (OGSE) to test optical space instruments before launch: collimators, test benches, optical flats, gimbals, etc…
- Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE): trolleys, lifting platforms, holders working at ambient temperature or cryogenic temperatures.
- Thermal panels to bring a device under test to temperatures ranging from a few Kelvin up to 150 °C.
- Thermal-vacuum chambers that reproduce the vacuum and temperature of space.
- Equipment for professional astronomy. These are telescopes, components or instruments managed by astronomers and installed within the largest observatories worldwide.
- High-precision mechanical systems for industry: AMOS leverages its high-precision mechanical expertise to offer to local industry high-precision manufacturing services, metrology services, design services. Examples are coating chambers for industry, carriage units or lifting devices.
AMOS has a large customer base in Europe (such as ESA, ESO, AIRBUS DEFENSE & SPACE, THALES ALENIA SPACE, OHB) as well as in the United States (as AURA, NMT, TMT, GMTO…) and in India (ISRO, PRL, ARIES…), and is also expanding to other markets such as Turkey.
